FY5
Colorado’s FY5 proudly swim in the deep currents of American music, playing new songs,
well-informed of country and bluegrass traditions, but not bound to them. Featuring
thoughtful arrangements, strong singing and musicianship, the band strives to connect to
listeners with stories of common struggles and big ideas. While their sound evokes
timelessness, it is decidedly contemporary, well-traveled 21st century sensibility that
informs their songwriting.
As they share the stories that drive the songs, FY5's show leaves listeners certainly with
tapping toes, but ranging thoughts as well. FY5 is excited for the release of their 4th full-
length album in early 2018,The Way These Things Go, featuring their trademark story songs,
clever arranging, and catchy hooks. The band was selected as official showcase artists for the
2017 International Bluegrass Music Association conference including a songwriter showcase
with Mike Finders.
“OnEat The Moon, all these elements combine in a partnership that recalls a time before roots music
became watered down or overly polished. FY5’s synergy of styles carries the traditions of what came
before with the frontier elements of the West, giving their music a sense of freedom and adventure that
sounds fresh to our ears. If you’re searching for the ensemble that will bridge the gap between the Smokies
and the Rockies, between East and West, old and new, this is for you." – Hearth Music
This group will have appeal to people that enjoy a mix of styles tossed into their bluegrass salad. FY5 is
casting a wide net with this release, and it’s got plenty of good picking and singing to go with the gritty
songs Finders and his gang have assembled here.”David Thom, Bluegrass Today
“The straight-forwardness with which FY5 delivers bluegrass on the album is complimented delicately with
large sprinkles of honkey-tonk steel and glorious folk harmonies; all layered with a coating of thick, rich
lyrical delivery and songwriting.”-Charlie Englar,Scene Magazine
“Their performance breathes like an intimate porch jam, yet the tight arrangements, lilting harmonies,
careful choreography around a central microphone, and instrumental precision display the group’s
commitment to their music.” -Henri Deschamps,Acousticana Journal

The Too Soons (feat. members of By & By).
By & By brings their "impressive vocals, smooth-as-honey string playing, and arms-wide-open stage energy" (DC Music Download) to bluegrass from Bill Monroe to Nickel Creek, and a catalog of original songs that reflect on the band's surroundings, pulling from the fast-paced, dynamic, and engaged culture of Washington, D.C. Their music has roots that dig through the traditions of bluegrass, folk, Americana, and rock 'n' roll, to create a sound uniquely theirs.

In 2009 when the band was finding its sound (and current personnel), the DC roots music scene was seeing something of a renaissance. Several local venues in the revitalized Atlas district made time to host bluegrass and songwriter series and By & By introduced itself to audiences through monthly shows at Sova and Argonaut.

More shows and more new songs moved into greater recognition. In 2011, By & By took first place in the Mid-Atlantic Bluegrass Band Competition, and in 2012 they took second in the Watermelon Park Band Competition. The band was also invited to play at the famed Kennedy Center and headlined the Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival, the DC region’s largest bluegrass festival.

By & By's first album, Get It While You Can, was released in 2013. It featured 14 original songs, and the songwriting and performances were recognized with seven nominations for Washington Area Music Association awards.
