Mary Battiata’s new album, The Heart, Regardless, earned a 5-star review in the May issue of Country Music People magazine (UK). CMP’s Chris Smith wrote: “Ms. Battiata has a fabulous voice and wraps it around some excellent lyrical content, the quality of which for me, rivals Rodney Crowell … The arrangements do indeed incorporate a little twang a little folk and a little pop influence, but you also get a sprinkling of delicious bluegrass undertones, some haunting strings and the occasional nice fat funky bass line.” Earlier this year, the record charted on the Roots Music Report’s “Top 50 Country” and “Top 50 Country Americana” album lists, a report of 200-plus commercial and public radio stations in the U.S.; and Mary’s song, “Things You Say and Don’t Say,” was No. 15 on the RMR’s chart of “Top 50 Country Songs.” The recording also made year-end best lists in Nashville’s WXNR, Honky Tonk Daily, and rose to No. 5 on the Freeform American Roots chart, a network of 150 independent radio deejays in the U.S., UK, Europe and beyond. Mary tours out of home base in Northern Virginia. This summer she will perform at Woody Guthrie Festival in Okemah OK, and tour the Southeast and Southwest, playing shows in Atlanta, Tallahassee, Austin, North Carolina, and the storied Blue Door in Oklahoma City. The Heart, Regardless is Mary’s third CD of original songs – it was recorded at Invisible Sound Studios in Baltimore MD, and coproduced by Mary and Dave Nachodsky with a standup band of veteran players Country and Bluegrass players from DC-Baltimore area, as well as Nashville and NYC.
