A journey through pop music history! For this special Flashband Showcase, 10 bands will deliver short, high-energy sets exclusively featuring songs that made it to Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

What is Flashband, you ask?
Flashband connects musicians to form a one-time band and play a showcase one month later.
Here's how it works: Musicians form a one-time band at a meet & greet jam, rehearse with their bands, then play the show! Typically 40-50 musicians participate, and have 4 weeks to prepare a 15-minute set for a Saturday night show.

Here's why 2000+ DC area musicians love Flashband:
Meet & jam with local hobbyists like you (no sketchy craigslist)
Play a Saturday night gig at a sweet venue just by showing up
Skip worrying about show logistics, backline, and promo
Get professional photos of you rocking out on stage
Make new friends in the music scene
Enjoy a unique and unforgettable experience among your peers

Smithsonian Year of Music

In April 2018, Secretary Skorton announced 2019 will be the Smithsonian Year of Music, an Institution-wide initiative to increase public engagement, advance understanding, and connect communities in Washington, D.C., across the nation, and around the globe. The Smithsonian Year of Music will highlight and share our vast musical holdings, bringing together our resources in history, art, culture, science, and education.

The Smithsonian Year of Music will feature “365 Days of Music at the Smithsonian” with a variety of music-related activities: performances, music releases, exhibitions, workshops, educational programs, lectures, films, and conferences. The 2019 Smithsonian Folklife Festival (June 26 to 30 and July 3 to 7, 2019 on the National Mall) will focus on the “Social Power of Music.”

Launch your exploration of music at the Smithsonian at https://music.si.edu/ and stay tuned for special performances and events, highlighted programming and collections, partners and collaborations. Much more to come!
