novo presents: A Tribute to Amy Winehouse
novo presents: A Tribute to Amy Winehouse
For one night only, DC's own novo presents a tribute to the music of Amy Winehouse. Led by powerhouse singers Tula Pisano and Carly Harvey, novo will be joined by an all-star horn section including Joe Herrera (Thievery Corporation, Frederic Yonnet), Elijah Jamal Balbed (Chuck Brown Band, JoGo Project), and Herb Scott (Capitol Hill Jazz Foundation). The tribute will also feature a special guest Grammy-nominated singer, to be announced the week of the show. This promises to be a night to remember, filled with some of DC’s finest musicians performing all of your favorite Amy tunes.

novo will open the evening with an original set showcasing their signature blend of indie, soul, jazz, and psych rock.

novo bio:

"And the sound? Well, it's butter...Each instrument is thoughtfully played, intentional, loose, comfortable and perfectly balanced, with the vocal finessing of Tula Pisano that is agile and strong (think Minnie Riperton and Dakota Staton)." - Nina Goodman, DC Music Review

"novo...knocked me out. ... Did I mention how much I dig this sound?" - Corey Brown, No Treble

"...DC's new electro soul powerhouse." Will Urquhart, DC Music Review

Defying categorization while evoking the familiar--that is novo's essence. The DC-based quintet delivers a potent blend of indie, R&B, jazz, and psych rock, which aims for both the mind and the soul. Formed in 2018, novo is the brainchild of husband-and-wife duo TJ Turqman (bass) and Gena Photiadis (keys/vocals), and features the unique vocal stylings of Tula Pisano, who deftly weaves intricate melodies that are equal parts evocative and beautiful. Rounding out the lineup are the tasteful and dynamic contributions of guitarist Nikhel Sus and drummer Matt Tredwell. The group’s collective influences yield a sound that is melodic, yet distressed. Retro, yet new. And, above all, full of light and energy.

novo's members include some of the most in-demand live and session musicians in DC, who have played with a range of artists locally, nationally, and internationally, including the Funk Ark, Staycation, Gordon Sterling & the People, and more.

Carly Harvey bio:
Based out of Washington, DC, Carly Harvey combines Blues, Jazz, Soul, & Americana roots styles to create a unique sound that calls to mind Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Nina Simone, with a little Ella Fitzgerald thrown in for good measure. In July 2018, Ms. Harvey was featured in Big City Blues Magazine as one of the youngest Blues artists to watch. She has had the privilege to share the stage with legendary and iconic musicians like Ron Holloway, Kebbie Williams, Ephraim Owens, Cory Henry, Kofi Burbridge, Junior Marvin, and Susan Tedeschi, another artist whose work has been foundational to her musical evolution.
Carly is a two-time DC Blues society Battle of the bands winner (duo 2016, band 2019) and was proclaimed DC's Queen of the Blues in 2016 by Dr. Nick Johnson of WPFW Radio.
Carly's represented DC in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January 2019 and advanced to the Semi-finals.
In Early 2019 released a new EP titled Kiss & Ride Vol. 1 and the hit single " She Ain't Me" is charting on regional blues radio stations. International crossover album titled Among The Stars and an EP titled Y.A.M.W.A.O. with Italian producer/composer Taste of Dream is an additional project that has allowed Carly to explore an element of her musicianship beyond the Blues.
